What are Mysteries?
The biggest mystery of all is the concept of the 'whole' and 'the self being as one with the universe'. A mystery is unexplained truth. There are mysterious places, scientific mysteries and stories handed down the generations called myths. They are largely based on facts which, though unexplained, have been facts in the past.
In childhood truth is multi-faceted and the discovery of what life is about is a wellspring of revelation, leading to successive stages of understanding in keeping with one's experience. However as we explore this territory - be it through religion, meditation, aastrology or psychic readings it is generally in fleeting moments that we capture the experience of being 'whole'.
The word 'occult' means 'hidden. But what is hidden now? Is even the future a mystery?
Various methods of foretelling the future such as astrology, runes, Tarot Cards and the I Ching have many hundreds of books published about them. Anyone can learn as many facts and read as many opinions on any subject as they wish. Since knowledge is not hidden, these beliefs and activities are hardly occult any more. The beliefs and practices leading to rituals which have defined as occult have now been thoroughly documented and published. Anyone can go to a bookshop and purchase written material on just about any 'occult' activity. What remain a mystery is simply what has not been scientifically proven.
In addition, as we learn more of the world around us and beyond deep space, we casually come to accept things that have been 'impossible' only a generation ago.
After progressing from the flat earth as the centre of the Universe (with many heretics losing their credibility and lives for expressing 'new ideas'), we were just getting comfortable with our solar system when astronomers recently detected what could be the Solar System's 10th planet similar in size to Pluto. Despite some debate about whether it qualifies as a true planet, it is already being said that it re-defines our Solar System.
Stephen Hawking has recently reversed his position on black holes having shown that they can radiate energy. The event horizon is now questionable. The reason goes back to quantum mechanics and the 'uncertainty principle'.
There are vast archives of documented evidence of phenomena which appear to tap into forces that are felt and not explained by science, and which are not conventional practices seen in traditional religions.
How do those forces relate to us individually? An answer may be to visit Mysteries in Monmouth Street and get a psychic reading. Here also you can get 'the Book of Answers' and many beautiful objects each of which has its own special quality. You can buy real rainbows to take home with you that float around your room. While you are there just listen to sounds that evoke feelings of calm and peace from gongs and chants to running water. The aroma of the shop is enticing and the books there could captivate you for hours.
Why the things there leave you with a sense of excitement is scientifically inexplicable and are, therefore, mysteries.
